New Licensing Application at 32 Caledonian Road – Simmons Dining Rooms

SimmonsA company named Simmons London Ltd has recently refurbished the previously vacant Simmons Dining Roomsat 32 Caledonian Road (across from Tesco) and has now applied for a Premise License requesting operating hours as outlined in the chart below.

While most of the operating hours in the application look reasonable, local residents should note the late hours requested Thursday through Saturday nights.

The lower end of Caledonian Road is becoming a bit over populated with places to drink and late night activities are bound to affect the amenity of nearby residents.

If you have concerns about any aspects of the application you can make your Representations to the Licensing Team by emailing them at: licensing@islington.gov.uk.  For further information and guidance, click – Making a Representation.  Your comments must be received by 27 July.

It would be nice if the Council would adopt a plan to not allow any activities after midnight for the 1st year of operation for any new establishment. This could ensure new operators demonstrated their level of responsibility to local residents, but to date no such plan has been considered…maybe it's time.

Have visited Simmons twice so far. It’s a sweet little bar and the people who work there are very friendly. The coffee is good and the cakes are wonderful. They are aiming to have a dual function as a coffee bar with alcohol available if you want it. They commented on the friendly atmosphere in the neighbourhood and are open to suggestions from customers. For example, they are considering showing films on Sunday afternoons with tea, if there is a demand for it.

Nipped in here for a beer last night. It’s a very cosy, very original venue with friendly staff and an excellent music policy. London needs more places like this. Overall a great addition to the neighbourhood – wish it was there when I lived round the corner!

We dropped in with our children the other day at about 7pm, rather expecting to receive the usual snooty London cafe-bar brush off, and instead we were welcomed in with open arms, and staff moved the furniture around to accommodate our buggy. They couldn’t do enough for us, and although we were going to just have a quick cup of tea after our day out, we ended up staying and having yummy pizzas and cup cakes. There are few funky places in London where adults with children are made to feel welcome after the sun goes down, so families in the area take note, this is a great place to go!!!
