Chat with the Chief Inspector and local police live online – Thursday 16 June 1900 on this website

Police helmet This website has always worked closely with the police as the community has made the area safer over the years.  But in a busy modern life it isn't always easy to make the various police-community etc meetings.  Often, either the time is wrong or the location inconvenient – so we are delighted to host a live webchat for local people to ask questions or talk to local police officers on Thursday 16 June in the evening from seven o'clock.

Chief Inspector Claire Clark and Caledonian SNT sergeant Michael Atkinson will be live online here at www.kingscrossenvironment.com from 1900 to 2100 (seven to nine oclock in the evening in old money).

So if you can get online wherever you are between seven and nine – at home with the kids or watching TV, even at work then you should be able ask a question here, get an answer and then get on with your evening.  You can also email me questions in advance or on the evening to environment@cankfarm.com and i shall ask them for you.  It's all a bit experimental, but if just one person is able to get an answer who wouldn't normally come to a community meeting then I'll be delighted.

Just come to www.kingscrossenvironment.com and you will be able to post questions live and see them answered live too (hopefully)!  No special skills needed – Just turn up and type.

For the technically minded we'll be using Coveritlive following the model of Ask the Commander in Stoke-on-Trent.  I am doing this at no cost to the police and receive no payment etc.

Interested in creative writing? local print publication starting up

3109788657_f6f757a72c_oMartin O’Donnell at Priory Green passed this on.  Good to see that someone can afford to print and distribute in this economic climate. Presumably they will follow the successful Hackney Citizen model.  Also check out the great site Martin is running – Barnsbury Living.

>>Want to learn or help others to write creatively?

Asviu Press London and the Barnsbury Community Group are collaborating in launching a not-for-profit independent local publication to promote citizen journalism, community participation and showcase local culture and arts.

We are seeking to engage local people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life, by offering them the opportunity to report on local events and news stories, particularly those that impact on or involve the local community.

The newspaper will reflect the rich cultural mix of Angel, Barnsbury and Islington, with features on local community and cultural events and providing a guide to what’s going on in the local area as well as cultural contributions, such as poetry, art and photography.

We are interested in social, political, economic and cultural events that affect the community, and seek to involve local people and organisations in reporting them. We are looking for local people and representatives of local groups who are willing to contribute to the newspaper, either as one-off or on a regular basis.

No experience is necessary, just an inquisitive nature and an interest in journalism, ideas for interesting local stories or artistic or cultural contributions. Photographers and interviewers are also welcome, as are people with knowledge of web publishing.

If you are interested in contributing, please contact Sergio at uristanisev@hotmail.com or call Nick on 020 7021 4607.

KX a model of good practice

Kx 'Public life in private hands: Managing London's public space'  has just been published. It's the report of the Greater London Assembly's Planning and Housing Committee. Since October of last year the committee has been reviewing the Mayor’s role in influencing the quality and accessibility of London’s public spaces through planning policy and other measures. King's Cross welcomed committee members to the area in December when they experienced the impact of the station redevelopment on access to the land owned by Network Rail and viewed the KX Central exhibition at the German Gym.

King's Cross is mentioned throughout as a model of good practice where the 'active early community consultation on development proposals, particularly where they include open space or other public space, … vital to a successful outcome for public space management' has been achieved and should be replicated by other developments across the capital.

What do you think? We'd be interested to hear your reactions to the new report and to the quality of public access to the privately owned land in KX.

Local meeting for Caledonian Ward – get things done with each other and your councillors, set local priorities

Teamcally logo

It's always worth going to this sort of meeting – much more interesting than you might expect and you can really get things done.

TEAM CALLY WARD PARTNERSHIP MEETING
6.30pm, Wednesday 25th May

Jean Stokes Community Centre, off Carnoustie Drive

Dear Resident,

Team Cally Ward Partnership Public Meeting: Wednesday 25th May at 6.30pm

Our neighbourhood is changing fast. Some things are for the better. Others are not. Over the past year, Islington Council and local residents have developed a plan to devolve decision-taking for our area. Now we want to hear your opinions about what matters most in our area.

Team Cally has been set up to improve the way that decisions are taken in our area. It is led by the 3 local Councillors so that public services are better coordinated and really meet the needs of local people. In the last year, Team Cally has attracted support and additional investment into the area, and has brought a number of opportunities to the ward, such as the Pathways construction project for young people.

Team Cally has developed a range of other opportunities to support adults looking for work over the past year and is currently working to plan and deliver the Cally Festival, which will run on the Caledonian Road on Sunday 3rd July and will be open to everyone.

We want Team Cally to continue to meet the needs of residents in the ward and to develop more opportunities that local people want and need. To help us to do this, we are pleased to invite you to a meeting of residents, local organisations and members of the Team Cally Partnership. The purpose of the meeting is for us to tell you more about what Team Cally has been achieving, and for you to tell us what you think should be the priorities for the coming 6 -12 months for your neighbourhood.

The meeting is an opportunity for you as residents to meet your local ward councillors, shape the future of neighbourhood management in the Caledonian Ward and decide the priorities for Team Cally. We hope that you will join us.

Wednesday 25th May, 6.30pm to 8.30pm
Jean Stokes Community Centre
Carnoustie Drive
N1 0DY

Kings Cross snapshot in time

It was a lovely day a couple of weeks ago and i snapped a pic of the front of the station allegedly a year short of completion of glass roof but some years short of the square in front of the station being restored.  Does anyone know what has happened to Network Rail's competition to refurbish the square?  Any sign of resident invovlement?
