Kings Cross refurbishment – comment from Islington Planners

Kings_cross_station_2I asked Islington Planning Officers for their observations on the removal of access from the East side of the station and how their views would be raised with Camden. Their anonymised response is below.  I still think that the answer here is gated/ticketed access barriers in two underpasses dug under the new track emerging on the current platform one inside the station and on both the east and west york way pavements of york way.  the underpasses could have shops in to keep them from the fate of normal underpasses:

Caledonian Road Lorry crash

Islgazette_logo_1 The Gazette reports a scary lorry crash on the Cally Road at the junction with Wharfdale Road.  There is a graphic photo of the lorry embedded in the front of the Sunrise Cafe.  I used to live a few doors away from this spot on the Cally.  Lorries were forever speeding down the hill from the canal bridge at well over 40 mph (it is a 30 limit).  Given the huge volume of traffic at this junction in the Kings Cross gyratory the Council and TfL really ought to do something – though their protracted dithering over the crossing at the spot of the crash isn’t promising.

La Primavera cafe, 341 Caledonian Road

Dsc01008 There are lots of good things about living in Kings Cross (which is why this website focuses so hard on cleaning up some of the bad things) La Primavera cafe at 341 Caledonian Road, near the Ferodo Bridge opposite Offord Road is a favourite for me.  Endlessly cheery and helpful Italian staff and good basic pasta, sandwiches, lasagne etc. Worth a visit, shame it isn’t open on Sunday mornings.

Caledonian Road litter glory hole

Dsc01007I have raised this popular waste dumping glory hole with the Council several times – it is land whose ownership is not clear underneath the Ferodo Bridge.  It used to be fenced off but the fence was wrecked years ago and waste builds up there.  WIll chase again – the Council ought to take contorl and fence it off.  If an ‘owner’ comes forward  the problem can be resolved then.  I notice that there are now new street lights under the bridge which makes it a lot more pleasant there than before.

Bingfield Street – due for a good sweep

Dsc01006This view from the gutter shows Bingfield Street as it typically is on a Saturday morning.  The effect is accentuated by the comparative lack of cars at the weekend.  In ICSL jargon this is Grade C – lots of rubbish in the gutter but the pavement clear.
Will raise with the Council and see what they can do.

Fridge-Freezer – seasonal migration?

Dsc01005A fridge freezer has arrived on Rufford Street.  At tis time of year it might be resting on its migration to warmer climes where its services are appreciated more.  WIll call the Council to help it on its way.

Kings Cross station refurbishment – your chance to comment – but HURRY

Kings_cross_station_1 Local community stalwart stephan schulte has, in one of his community emails explained succintly how to comment on the planning application:

>>Folks,

As you know should now know, King’s Cross Station now going to be re-developed by Network Rail and their Planning Application is now pending. Consultation will be completed this Thursday 14 September.

Although there may be many issues that have meaning to local residents – one in particular should be a major annoyance for Islington residents.  Entry to the new concourse and the rest of the station will be from

Pancras   Road, north

of the Great Northern Hotel.  Not only will there be no access from

York Way

but none form the

Euston Road

frontage either.

Although the consultation period is almost over, you can easily object to this current plan (and I for one will be doing so due to the aforementioned reason) by going online and filling out a simple form.

The link below will take you to

Camden

’s public planning register:

 http://planningonline.camden.gov.uk/WAM/search/pas/index.htm

When you get their just insert the application number in the appropriate field – 2006/3387/P

When the application details come up, just look at the top of the page for “Comment on Application.”

This link will take you to a form to complete. Of course, you may comment on any aspect of the application at this time.

If you want to respond, please do it quickly as the consultation period is due to end this coming Thursday, 14th September.

CEMEX plant being truclent

Like a naughty child that when told off behaves worse, just to prove that it can the CEMEX plant on Rufford Street threw a little tantrum this morning.  After enforcment visits by their own national environmental compliance team the guys at the plant decided to put on a special show this Saturday morning.  One of my neighbours was woken by especially early weekend deliveries of gravel at around 0700 and lots of banging noises.  On a Saturday morning.  Until we see some demonstrations of good faith from CEMEX we shall continue to increase the pressure.  Watch here for next steps, pehaps we shall put them on the naughty step.  Thanks by the way for all the supportive emails.  We’ll get there in the end…..
