To be revealed soon?

Reveal The organisers of the Reveal arts programme promise a ‘cultural celebration of King’s Cross’ – to run from Thursday 22 April to Sunday 2 May.

A line-up of artistic and theatrical performances and installations are planned for venues all over King's Cross, drawing on local stories and culture – past, present and future.

The programme isn’t out yet, so it's a case of 'watch this space'. You can sign up at www.revealkingscross.org.uk to get the announcement, which appears imminent. If the blurb is any indication, it sounds like it will be a fresh take on what never fails to be an intriguing place.

Thanks for reading this far through my first post. I'm Clare Hill, from the ‘other’ bit of King’s Cross – WC1. I’ve enjoyed reading this indispensable local newswire for a few years, and hope I can give something back by way of some new snippets.

Localgovcamp in Kings Cross

LocalgovgeekIT people from local government all over Britain descend on Kings Cross today for #localgovcamp at Kings Place.  Localgovcamp is a meetup for people trying to make councils and local authorities work better using technology.

I do a fair bit of work with these folk – they are all lovely, if a bit geeky at times.  So if you see someone wandering up and down York Way or even worse, lost on the Cally Road clutching a laptop, maybe with some pens in their top pocket then help them find Kings Place.

Local neighbourhood restaurant seeks to expand – new planning application filed

Royal_thai Acccording to Planning Application P100228, the Royal Thai Restaurant at 52 Caledonian Road is seeking to expand by applying for a change of use for it's basement from storage to restaurant space.

The Royal Thai is quite popular with local folks, so this seems like a very positive plan.  We wish them the best of luck!!!!

If you would like to examine the complete applicaion Click Here.  Once there, you can click the tabs to see all the associated information (including a larger version of the proposed shopfront shown below) and comment online if you wish.  You can so comment by emailing the Planning Officer directly at planning@islington.gov.uk.  (Please note that the formal consultation runs until 11 March.)

This is what the proposed shopfront will look like:

(W01)-Proposed---Front-Elevation---Dwg-No.A9704-P-144-200-Rev

Please note the first comment received below from one of our local residents who feels this proposal should be rejected – not the use…but the look of the buidling.  Tony is a respected local architect who feels that this plan must be approved upon to be worthly of the area's Conservation status.  Please read his comments below, and if you agree use the link above to make your feelings known to the Planning Department.

Armchair accountability – ‘Democracy Club’ meeting Thursday evening Holborn

Democracy club The people at MySociety (who do theyworkforyou and fixmystreet) have set up this interesting national organisation Democracy Club.  It describes itself as

'a non-partisan hub for for armchair activists. We suggest small ways in which volunteers can hold our representatives to account.'

As you know we try not to do party politics on this site (there's plenty of that on the internet elsewhere) but we do do scrutiny and accountability.  Democracy Club is i think mainly web basedd but has it's first face to face meeting for central london just down the road in Holborn on Thursday evening bringing together people from a range of London constituencies.  Their text follows:

Central London democracy club meeting

Democracy Club is a non-partisan project that aims to inform the electorate and support more engagement with political issues.

We aim to cut through the spin and gather a record of each candidate's position on local and national topics along with information on who candidates are and what they say and do.

We are meeting this Thursday to progress those aims by talking about the forthcoming election, the issues that will affect it in central London.

As voters, having greater clarity on what election candidates actually stand for helps us to hold them to account.

Together we are making a difference. The more of us there are, the more difference we make. We hope to see you on Thursday, or if you can't come, then please sign up at http://www.DemocracyClub.org.uk
