A licence transfer notice for 47-51 Caledonian Road suggests that the relatively shortlived TED restaurant is to be replaced by a steak joint, Flatiron. If this is right, as Kings Cross is short of steak places this is welcome. Reviews of other Flatirons are promising – a good write up in the Evening Standard, decent Tripadvisor and here is their Facebook page. Nice to see a focus on value steak – so much in London is vastly overpriced – and a growing quality independent, not a regular chain. Perhaps the Cally can continue to be alt-Kings Cross with promising small independents rather than the chains.

Kings Cross Environment 
Sounds brilliant! When is it opening, I would love to go there. If it is good, I’ll recommend it to the Guild of Foodwriters and Trip Advisor. I totally agree that most restaurants are overpriced, even in Kings Cross.
From a diversity point of view it’s a little disappointing that 100m away in Caledonia Street, Premier Inn is unveiling its new resident restaurant, Bar & Block which will centre around, you guessed, steak! It’s Premier Inn’s belated effort to modernise its extremely tired ‘Rosemary and Thyme’ brand – a restaurant that had the dubious power to transport the ‘diner’ back to provincial Britain of the early 1970s. Let’s hope both new restaurants are good and affordable.
