Several explosions occured on the roof of King's Place about half an hour ago and were followed by fire which raged whilst further explosions blew smoke into the sky above Battlebridge Basin. The fire brigade attended and quickly doused the fire.
Meanwhile, concerned residents of nearby flats and even nearer narrowboats gathered with visitors to the Canal Museum on the towpath opposite.
The scare was exacerbated by this being the second such incident at King's Place. The first occurred during construction when a gas tank exploded resulting in residents and businesses being evacuated.
