There has been a wave of territorial graffiti along the Cally Road and the streets running off it in the last few weeks. Some local kids are tagging ‘Cally’ and ‘Boston’ (the Boston estate) and N1, N8 on all sorts of things- mainly the areas white walls, estate signs and portals.
It’s all a bit mindless – a human equivalent of dogs pissing on trees and will probably go away in a while. But it is annoying while it happens and expensive to clean up. It started on the Cally around Freeling Street, then spread up Blundell and Brandon roads. There was a big outbreak up Richmond Avenue in the last few days. Islington has an excellent but under resourced environmental crime team, let’s hope they are on the case and the vandals grow up a bit.
Kings Cross Environment 
Sorry to hear. I don’t think this is a clean up issue, but one that should immediately be referred to youth teams working on each estates. This is not only because the smears are a nuisance to local grown up residents, but such irrational rivalries can go out of hand quickly. I think we had enough deadly evidence of that in London in the years. Like you I do think taggings are not pretty, but what I am really interested in is the prevention of more young persons deaths. Hence your great spotting should be a massive hint for youth, school and community safety workers in the area. In fact, if you have access to their emails you best forward your posting to them.
Phew Daniel has already said it! Vital to let our local youth workers know, if they don’t already, that turf wars maybe hitting our streets. It could end up with something very tragic happening like the Stokey killing of the N16 kid…
