Property developers Blackstone caused a big row last year when they stupidly cut down some lovely mature London Planes in front of the occasionally troubled Nido development (amusing Facebook group here). Locals and Councillors were outraged. Zsusanna though has spotted that finally replacement trees have been installed and kindly sent a photo (click on it to enlarge and see the trees). And not just small ones – these are unusually big for pavement planting.

After all the shouting, it gradually emerged that part of the TfL agreement was that these trees would be replaced. After a bit of hassling it was agreed they would replace with substantially sized young trees rather than the usual weedy saplings. With luck, these should now take root and grow into reasonable sized replacements quite quickly. From experience elsewhere in the neighbourhood, the key factor is whether they are watered sufficiently during the first summer after an early Spring planting.
