What’s Happening: 35-45 Caledonian Road & 4-8 Balfe Street

Islington_logo A number of folks were interested in the status of the subject store front that were formerly the Lyons Plumbing Supply Company on lower Caledonian Road.  The following information was provided by our Councillor Paul Convery and was provided by the Case Officer handling the site.

Dear Councillor Convrey,

I believe you are interested in the details of the above-mentioned applications.

Originally three applications were put in for the site: P071711 – for A5 use (Hot Food Takeaway); P071712 – for A4 use (Drinking Establishments); P071713 – for A3 use (Restaurant)

I believe there initial intention was to get permission for all three of theses uses so that they could attract a wider variety of uses.  However following a meeting they were advised that A5 and A4 uses would be far more contentious than A3 uses and would be far less desirable.  The applicant therefore decided to withdraw the A5 and A4 applications and focus on getting A3 consent for the site.

The applications were invalid as information was missing; a letter was sent requesting for this additional information to be submitted stating that if it was not provided by a certain date the applications would be withdrawn.  As the applicant wished to withdraw the applications they chose not to submit the information by the necessary date and therefore the applications were withdrawn.

I hope this information is useful

Regards

Edward Hands
Planning Officer (East/ West), Development Control Services

Paul also commented to "also bear in mind what Land & Equity’s agent said about the other uses … residential above, B1 and the medical uses they have had permission granted for. As they agent said, they are trying to maximise their marketing options by getting as many uses agreed as possible."

Thanks to Paul for bringing all up to date.
