The Kings Place building on York Way will be home to the Guardian in about 2008 . The builders have hoarded off the York Way pavement on the East side. This forces pedestrains out into the road at a busy junction (see pic below). The pavement diversion is badly signed and the pedestrian crossing facilities at this point are weak. I have raised this with Islington Planners (Mark Hammill – who knew nothing about it). The licence the builders haveis from Camden Council, even though the pavement is in Islington (Camden are the higway authority for York Way at this point). The Camden hoarding licence runs out on 1 November so let’s hope these dangerous hoardings are removed.

Can I add that if people want to complain to Sir Robert McAlpine, the building contractors, they can do so to their community liaison representative, James McGinty, who is on 0845 601 8198 or 020 7841 8850.
I have spoken to James who said that the current arrangements would be in place for a whole year!
It’s exceptionally dangerous and an unreasonable use of public highway. I have now contacted the developers, Parabola, and asked for this to be sorted out. I go past the site every day and it’s crackers demanding people cross the road when we all know what human instincts are like – even though it’s pretty dangerous.
Paul – good work – I think that Parabola/Sir Robert McAlpine should coordinate with Camden BC to put in a temporary zebra crossing or provide a marshal to help people cross the road. I saw a mother with a pushchair struggling at Crinan Street yesterday.
Another problem with the hoardings is that long vehicles turning right onto York Way from Goods Way are having great difficulty because of the obstruction. It’s only a matter of time until something gets stuck or damages the traffic lights/ hoardings.
